Our Mission
Expand the community’s access to and knowledge of the natural habitats of the Highlands Plateau.

Our Vision
Blend environmental sciences, land use, and ecological stewardship to create a more harmonious union between people and the natural world around them; action through inspiration, education through experiences, and better health through connection with nature.
How we work

Stewardship Based in Community Care
We achieve our mission through grassroots community involvement, respectful care for the land, and environmental stewardship by educating and engaging our neighbors to preserve and protect our local ecosystems.

Our History
Co-habitate is a 501 3 (c) non-profit organization and was founded in February 2025 in Highlands, NC by Sonya Carpenter and Canty Worley’s desire to blend environmental sciences, land use, and ecological stewardship to create a more harmonious union between people and the natural world around them.
In addition to launching Co-habitate, Sonya, and Canty own a local garden maintenance and design firm that creates gardens in harmony with the natural environment, with an emphasis on native plant species, building healthy soils, and maintaining the character and diversity of the landscape.
